Urban Architecture

Multifaceted Facades

Brandenburg an der Havel, with its more than 1000-year-old history, is the oldest city in the Federal State of Brandenburg. During a walk through the city, various testimonies of the past can be found – after all, there are still more than 400 buildings of historical significance in the city of Brandenburg. Most of them are Gothic sacral buildings, and especially in the Altstadt district they feature the striking characteristic red-brick façades.

Gründerzeit style residential and administrative buildings, garrisons, schools, and industrial buildings have withstood the test of time in Brandenburg an der Havel. Unique buildings of Art Nouveau architecture can be found in Altstadt and in the suburb Plaue. For those of you who prefer a sober architectural style for living, without frills and glamour, you will find what you are looking for in Ring and in Quenz – impressive buildings in the style of New Objectivity are characteristic for these districts. Buildings around the main station are representative of an even more recent architectural style than the buildings of the 1950s and 1960s located in the districts Nord and Hohenstücken: An ensemble of contemporary architecture greets visitors at the entrance gate to the city of Brandenburg.

wobra – Your Home by the Havel River

We, the wobra, currently manage around 4,300 apartments and commercial units in Brandenburg an der Havel. As a municipal housing association, we want to create affordable housing as well as help shape the city: We create attractive living spaces and develop districts and neighbourhoods. Through large-scale renovations, we have already been able to beautify many residential areas and upgrade living spaces.

In the next few years, we will focus on the development of the district Ring with its suburbs in Gründerzeit style, as well as the districts Nord and Hohenstücken, districts that are located in the immediate neighbourhood of Altstadt and are in constant transition and change. We create demand-oriented housing – for the old and the young, the single or family household.

In addition, we support associations, organisations, and non-profit institutions – who are committed to the cause of making Brandenburg an der Havel a loveable hometown and a beloved home. Because your home is also our home. For more information, please visit wobra.de
